Write Google Ads copy that fits the first time. Pick the field, type, and see exactly how much room is left.

Limits differ per field, so pick the one you are actually filling in.
Note. Staying inside the character limit does not mean the ad meets Google Ads policy. Editorial, trademark and industry rules apply separately.

How this counter works

Choose the field you are writing — headline, description or display path — and the counter applies that field’s limit as you type, showing characters used, characters remaining and whether you are over.

The formula

Responsive search ads allow headlines of 30 characters (3 to 15 per ad), descriptions of 90 characters (2 to 4 per ad), and two optional display paths of 15 characters each. Google counts each character in a double-width language such as Korean, Japanese or Chinese as two, and this counter does the same.

What to watch for

Fitting inside the character limit does not mean the ad will be approved. Editorial standards, trademark rules and industry restrictions are assessed separately and are a far more common cause of disapproval than length.

Questions

Google allows up to 15 and requires at least 3. More distinct headlines give the system more combinations to test, but only if they are genuinely different rather than reworded.

Yes. Every character counts, including spaces and punctuation.

Google counts double-width characters as two. The counter reproduces that rule, so the number here matches what Google Ads will tell you.
